Teen Paws Class

5 Week Class - £120

The adolescent or ‘teenage’ stage of development is a difficult time for both owner and dog. As they grow from that cute small puppy into young adults, things can get tough for both you and your adolescent dog. We treat each dog as the individuals they are; some may need some extra help with confidence and some may need extra help learning if excited in different environments.

The aim of the Teen Paws class is to help you through this challenging time and show you ways to help your adolescent develop into a well-rounded adult dog. The classes teach a variety of behaviours through reward based training using many different reinforcers. They carry on from basic puppy cues into those more structured towards the teenage stage, for example:

  • Impulse control
  • Manners training
  • Help with co-operative care
  • Fun games that will improve your recall
  • Lead walking
  • How to tackle jumping up
  • Scent games
  • Socialisation team work
  • Training that helps with everyday ‘real life’ walks

We cover the power of play and how to use this as another reinforcer on your training journey. We will also cover important subjects like hormone changes, the next fear phases, body language, communication, things that can go wrong, and problems we can prevent to help make your relationship with your adolescent dog stronger. 

 
We make this fun for everyone to learn together by using games and tasks that will help you with your own walks and other situations in your every day life with a teenager!
  • Places are limited to 6 dogs maximum, so booking is essential.
  • Age group is from 6 months up to 3 years old.
  • 5 week practical course.

If your young dog has not been in a hall environment before, we can arrange a visit for you to bring them to Dyke Village Hall before the class starts, to ensure they are happy first.

 

An Introduction and any further information needed will be sent out before the class starts via email. This will include a Terms and Conditions document that must be signed before classes start.
