We have been running our Walk and Train classes since 2013. This is one of our most popular classes, with clients often repeating as they and their dogs get so much out of them. This is due in part to each walk being held in different local locations, similar or the same as you take your own dog for walks, but you have us there with you to learn how to deal with real life situations as they happen. We will teach you how to respond to the many and varied interactions you would expect on an average walk.
We will teach you to communicate with your dog through reading their canine body language. When you understand what your dog is feeling, you will be able to help them cope with different situations. We cover basic training for everyday life, e.g. recalls with distractions, socialising and walking calmly with other dogs on a loose lead. We will also do some fun scent work along the way. Natural and urban agility is also used to enrich your dog’s walks. After the walk, we provide a hot drink and time to chat about what your training goals are and how you can achieve them.
The class has a maximum of 4 carefully matched dogs. This ensures that your dog is not overwhelmed and is therefore relaxed and able to enjoy the walk while learning canine body language and social skills from the other participants. This in turn will help your dog in future meetings with other dogs.
If you would like to attend a Puppy Walk and Train class, then you must have attended either the Puppy Life Skills class, or had a one-to-one session with Susan or Lorna. If you are interested in joining the Walk and Train class, but have not attended any of our other classes or had a one-to-one session, Lorna is happy to meet with you and your dog to see if the class would be suitable.
