I contacted Tail-Talk for help with my rescue greyhound, Kitty, who was refusing to go for ‘walkies’ due to her terror of loud noises. The problem started when she was startled by the sound of gunfire in the local woods, but gradually worsened until she wouldn’t go anywhere where there might be similar noises such as bird scarers, cars backfiring, and by building works. It was getting to the stage where she would hardly leave the house. She would just stand there with her tail tucked down under her belly, trembling uncontrollably. If she heard something when we were out she would have a panic attack, squealing and dragging me all the way home. I was completely at a loss as to how to help her.
Susan and Megan at Tail-Talk have both been wonderful, and Kitty is now a changed dog. We had several walking sessions where Kitty was encouraged to go to new places. The walks were made fun by introducing games such as ‘Find It’ to help her realise that walks are enjoyable rather than scary. She loved these sessions. They also taught me fun games to play with Kitty in the house and garden for those days when walking really was not possible. As a result of all this Kitty’s confidence has improved enormously and she now loves her walks again. It is lovely to see her so happy and playful.
In addition to the practical sessions we are in continuous contact via email, and the support and advice I have received has been invaluable.
I am very grateful to Susan and Megan at Tail-Talk for all they have done to help both Kitty and me.
